GAVIAL THE INVINCIBLE
Arknights CANON Mid-late 20s?? AGE None yet! FACTION Tier 0 HARMONIZATION LEVEL
Post-Ideal City CANON POINT Female (She/her) GENDER O: ASPECT Tier 0 DISCORD LEVEL
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Gavial is a force of nature packed into a 5’4”/163cm frame, with the athletic build of someone who has spent a lifetime fighting and enjoying every moment of it. With a first passing glance she might almost appear to be human, but closer inspection will reveal her long, double-pointed ears, somewhat sharper teeth, and—most prominently—a long and slender crocodilian tail at her back that marks her as an Archosauria. Paired with her piercingly golden eyes and long, green hair that reaches down the length of her back (usually either worn loosely or done up in dreads), there is a sense of somewhat restrained wildness to her that she revels in. She tends to favor more revealing outfits, particularly when in warmer climates, but will otherwise gravitate toward more durable clothing. Her upper left arm is tattooed, but more importantly she also has this little croc done around the Originium crystals on her belly!!!

PERSONALITY
Gavial is a very laid-back woman who prefers to treat others in an extremely straightforward—and oftentimes blunt—manner. She’s filled with a confidence that lends to her being unafraid to take risks or to get right up in other people’s business. Generally she thinks subterfuge and trickery are all just a waste of time, preferring to get right down to the core of whatever matter is at hand without any preamble. Though she may come across as something of a meat-head (her go-to method of problem solving does tend to be violence, more often then not), in truth she is thoughtful and intelligent underneath it all, having worked as a doctor and a combat medic for years. And she’s very good at her job, it’s just unfortunate that her attitude and lack of bedside manner does tend to inspire fear in her patients until they get to know her.

Overall, she wants nothing more than to be able to help others and to have herself a good time—and her answer to the latter usually comes in the form of enjoying a good fight or contest of strength. Engage with her on that level or enable her to do so in any way, and you’ll find yourself with a very fast friend who will always have your back.

BACKGROUND
Orphaned when she was young enough to have no recollection of her parents, Gavial was born in the rainforests of Acahualla and collectively raised by her tribe of Tiacuah. The Tiacuah live a simple life, largely isolated from the rest of the world and tend to run things with a “Might Makes Right” attitude. Even as a young girl, Gavial excelled as a fighter and was lauded for her strength, and it soon became a core part of her identity. Then one day she went on a rescue mission to save people stuck in the mines—the tunnels of which contained Originium, and during the process she came into contact with the dangerous mineral and contracted the terminal disease of Oripathy.

The tribe as a whole—and most egregiously, her close friend Tomimi who she’d saved from the mine—doted on her endlessly and encouraged her to take it easy and stop fighting in the wake of her new illness. To a young woman whose self-image relied so much on being a strong member of a warrior culture, this treatment felt less like compassion and more like ostracization. Eventually she hit her breaking point, and on the day of the big fighting ceremony to choose the next Great Chief of the scattered Tiacuah tribes, Gavial crashed the proceedings and kicked the asses of every single contender for the title, proving that her strength still endured. And as one last ‘fuck you’ for the perceived slight of her treatment, she takes her victory and runs away from home without looking back.

She spent the next few years as an aimless mercenary, putting her strength to use as she broadened her horizons and learned more and more of the world outside the forest of her homeland. Soon she learns she has a knack for healing Arts and eventually takes to studying the field of medicine more broadly. Before long, she finds herself employed as a doctor and combat medic by Rhodes Island Pharmaceuticals, an organization dedicated to treating those suffering from Oripathy and researching potential treatments and cures for the rampant disease. For the first time in her life, Gavial finally feels like she has a real purpose in the fulfilling work that she does there.

Eventually she does venture back to pay a visit to Acahualla on a few occasions. The first of which sees her mending that old bridge with her people (and hilariously discovering that they’ve considered her their wayward leader all this time), while the second ends with her helping their subterranean Durin neighbors deal with a catastrophe of their own (and showing off her actual, latent leadership skills). But the place she belongs now is ultimately Rhodes Island, and once things are settled she returns to her work.

ABILITIES & SKILLS
NATURAL ABILITIES
  • Healing Arts: Your standard fare healing magic. She can cast this very reliably to heal small-scale or low and slowly sustained damage, but a lot of heavy wounds can quickly outpace her healing output. She also specializes in casting short-term heal-over-time spells of both the single target and aoe variety (with the latter being less potent), which basically lets her free up her focus on when multiple people need her attention as a medic by letting the magic gradually do its thing instead of requiring her fixed attention for multiple casts.
  • Super Strength: …To a certain extent. Apparently people from Terra are generally stronger than regular Earth humans at a baseline (thanks for that fun lore, Rainbow Six crossover!) and Gavial is renowned for basically being in a league of her own when it comes to strength and stamina. She comes from a prolific warrior society where she stands undefeated, she’s able to fend off multiple enemies attacking her at once without a ton of issue, and she has on multiple occasions now gone 1v1 against some kind of big, ugly mech and come out a victor. Basically, she can take a beating and dish it back in spades. Pretty much all of her in-game skills as a melee unit let her boost her attack and defense to a (sometimes significant) degree for a short period of time. As for putting this into practice in Kenos: I don’t plan on doing anything too ridiculous or overpowered with this. It might lend her some advantage in bursts, but she’s not going to be just completely stomping people in a fight without reason, and I will pretty much just play it by Rule of Cool/Rule of Fun depending on what people would like!
  • Life-steal: Gavial can, presumably through the use of some kind of healing Art, heal herself for a brief period of time for the equivalent of a small portion of the damage she deals to an enemy. Basically something to help her sustain herself in long/hard fights, but nothing that’s gonna keep her going forever without outside help.
  • Soul of the Jungle: A very metal name for a skill that lets her block twice as many enemies as usual and lets her take half of all incoming damage for a short period of time. The drawback is that that blocked damage hits her afterward as damage over time, so if she goes too ham while using it she will be in big trouble without aid. The gist of it is: she basically ignores her wounds through sheer force of will and adrenaline for a short time, but has to deal with the consequences after.
  • Oripathy: The fantasy rock disease she suffers from. Not exactly a power (though it CAN strengthen some people’s use of Arts; however it doesn’t seem to be the case for Gavial), but I figured it’s worth noting somewhere. She’ll still be afflicted by it since it’s such a big part of her identity now, but its progression will be at a standstill just for ease and she won’t be infectious upon death unless someone is really itching to make a short-term plot out of it and make Gavial really sad lmao.
